Dan Konrath joined the Mazak Optonics team in June 2015 with 11 years of mechanical and electrical experience but was new to the laser industry. With Konrath's electrical and mechanical knowledge he has been able to hit the ground running. His hands-on work ethic and go-getter attitude made him a valuable member of Mazak. Tim Tapper, Applications Manager said, "Dan started his career with Mazak in our installations group which gave him a great understanding of the intricate workings of our equipment.  Since joining the applications group a year and a half ago, he has shown expert knowledge in machine operation and cutting as well.  Combining the two areas of expertise has made him a wizard at quickly helping our customers with any difficulties that arise."

With Dan's technical knowledge of the machine, he is a major asset to the applications department. Get to know more about Dan Konrath through this quick Q&A session.

Quick Q&A with Dan Konrath

What is your background in laser technology?

"Before Mazak I had no laser experience. I spent over two years installing machines and automation before I moved to applications. I have been an applications engineer for going on a year and a half now."

What is your role as an Applications Engineer?

"Mazak was my first job in the laser industry. As an Applications Engineer, I am tasked with customer training, feasibility cuts for customers who are considering if a laser is a good fit for their operations and running demonstrations for customers who visit our facility and want to see the machine's perform."

"Due to my service background I am also one of a couple 'Hybrid Applications Engineers' who are able to troubleshoot and repair mechanical machine issues as well as programming issues when on site."

What is your definition of great customer service and what do you do to provide it?

"I think great customer service can only happen if you take the time to build a relationship with a person. It is a lot easier to effectively help a customer if they are comfortable with you and you have built a good rapport."

What are your interests and hobbies?

"I am a bit of a wrench, I enjoy tinkering in my shop where I work on my boat or old muscle cars."

What is your spirit animal?

"A chipmunk because I wanted to pick something completely opposite of what people would expect."
